Parents are distracted when driving.

When it comes to distracted drivers, we’re quick to point fingers at the teens and drunks. But it’s actually parents who are searching the internet and applying lipstick while their kids are in the backseat, according to researchers from University of Michigan.

They surveyed more than 600 parents to find whether they – while driving their kids – did activities such as phone calls, internet surfing, texting, eating, grooming, feeding their kids or changing a CD or a DVD.

•Almost 90 percent of drivers said they’d been distracted by technology while driving their child in the past month, and most drivers admitted to four of the 10 distractions listed.

•Drivers who reported engaging in distracting behaviors were more likely to report having ever been in a crash.
