Lawmakers threw the break we’ve been getting on payroll taxes right over the Fisall Cliff. We’ve calculated the new cost so many Americans – perhaps you find some familiar numbers below….

A lawyer in New Haven Connecticut earning $131,690 would pay an extra $2,274 – because the tax affects only the first $113,700 we earn. Anyone else in the country earning $113,700 or more — including the architectural managers in Macon Georgia earning $117,850, the CEOs in Bethesda, Maryland earning $216,430, the sales managers in Denver, Colorado earning $128,280, a dentist in Billings, Montana earning $114,000 and the physicists in Huntsville, Alabama earning $114,050 — would all still pay only $2,274 more. (It used to be, while we were getting the tax break, it applied to the first $110,000 we earned. Now it applies to the first $113,700 we earn.)

In Bangor, Maine a special education teacherearning $52,870 would pay an extra $1,057 — or $3277 total.

Architectural managers earning over $110,000 – including those in Macon, Georgia earning over $117,000 — won’t pay more than $2,200. Because that’s the cap.

An optomotrist in Toledo, Ohio earning $192,790 would pay an extra $2,200 because, yes, that’s the cap.

A property manager in Richmond, Virgnia earning $94,500 would pay an extra $1,890 or a total of $5,859.
