False information about jobs, water and food stamps is working its way around the internet. Here are the facts about what FEMA is doing.

The message boards and traffic on social media sites that say FEMA is distributing cash cards to individuals affected by Hurricane Sandy is not true. If you are in a country affected by Sandy, register for assistance at www.disasterassistance.gov or by calling 1-800-621-FEMA.

 A radio report discussing a tent city for sheltering at Monmouth Park race track in New Jersey is inaccurate. The tents set up at Monmouth Park are rest places where first responders and utility and construction workers can get food and water while working. Despite recent blog posts, FEMA is NOT out of bottled water. It is providing water to its state partners for distribution. If you’re in New York and you want to learn about where you can find a food and water distribution center or a daytime warming center, visit www.nyc.gov.

FEMA says that despite false reports, The Old Bridge Municipal Utilities Authority (OBMUA) has reported its water system is stable and safe and that there are no usage restrictions currently in place.
