So much for trying to supplement your healthy lifestyle.
Butala Emporium of Jackson Heights, NY is recalling eleven supplements because they contain elevated LEAD and MERCURY levels.
If a child or pregnant woman is exposed to lead for weeks or months, then the expected damages would include problems with the central nervous system, learning disorders and developmental fetal defects.
The elevated mercury levels in these products – even with short term use — can cause kidney, stomach and intestinal (or gut) symptoms, while over months, these products could be potentially lethal. Mercury consumption at these levels can also cause psychiatric and personality disturbances, loss of coordination, visual loss, hearing loss, and other neurological conditions particularly exposed in utero.
The products from Butala contain excessive levels of both lead and mercury, says the FDA, and the company is notifying individuals not to consume this product.
