GARAGE SALE PERMITS

The rules vary across cities and towns but here are some garage sale standards most of us must follow:

1. You can only sell second-hand goods.
2. You must own those goods – no consignment sales.
3. Hours of the sale must be during daytime, though exact hours will vary.
4. Items must be displayed within property lines.
5. You may need additional permits for firearms, electronics or automobiles.
6. You may be able to have a limited number of yard sales a year otherwise be considered a retailer required to collect sales taxes.
7. Signs advertising the sale will be limited.
8. Parking cannot block traffic.
