Lamb prices are up over 29 percent from last year.

Prices for lamb in supermarkets are unusally low.

This morning’s price report told us food prices were the same – not higher, not lower, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. If you have a different opinion on the inflation situation, we’ll back you up.

Because while, yes, supermarket averages seemed steady, you can bet inside the aisles were some serious eye-0pening price hikes.

Take a very expensive lettuce crop, for example. Retailers last month charged 22 percent more than a year ago for the leafy salad staple. Back in January, a freeze affected crops leaving even the current harvest not only with prices that doubled and tripled – but were also less bountiful.

Apple prices also grew to great heights – having risen 12.9 percent since last year.

The good news in supermarket aisles was lower lamb prices. It’s not great for farmers but if you like your chops seared with rosemary and sea salt, prices for the typically expensive cuts are being sliced.
