Caffeine infused shapewear is not a weight loss trick.

If there are two things no red-blooded woman can resist, the first is a weight loss trick and the second is coffee. So the attempt to sell us caffeine-infused underwear that would slim and reshape the our bodies while reducing cellulite was pretty clever. Until of course, the government stepped in and told them to stop the nonsense and return our money, to the tune of $1.5 million.

Norm Thompson Outfitters, Inc., and Wacoal America, Inc. — selling products such as iPants on Sahalie, Body Solutions, and Body*Belle websites — told us their shapewear was infused with microencapsulated caffeine, retinol, and other ingredients. They said it would eliminate or substantially reduce cellulite, reduce hip measurements by up to two inches and thigh measurements by one inch; and all “without any effort.”

In a not particularly shocking revelation, the government found those claims to be false and unsubstantiated.

“Caffeine-infused shapewear is the latest ‘weight-loss’ brew concocted by marketers,” said Jessica Rich, Director of the FTC’s Bureau of Consumer Protection. “If someone says you can lose weight by wearing the clothes they are selling, steer clear. The best approach is tried and true: diet and exercise.”
